Top 5 Helpful Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring is here!

I personally always use Spring as a time to DEEP CLEAN my closet. This year, I literally cleaned out so much from my closet, that I now have room for new “must have” items”. Spring cleaning is a way to hit restart for the current season and also for the season that follows. Here are a few simple tips that you can use when you decided to clean your closets this season.

1) Clean out your closet

Cleaning out your closet as the first step, mean to literally remove everything from your closet and lay it out on your bed. You closet should be empty.

2) Throw Trash

It happens. Sometimes there is trash that we don’t even know HOW ON EARTH it got there. Vacuum if you need to, wipe down shelves. Anything that you need to do to have a squeaky clean closet, do it!

3) Create Two Piles

This is where the fun begins! Create two separate piles: 1 for “Donation” and 1 for “Keeps”. If you want, you CAN create a THIRD pile where you have those items that may need to get altered or fixed (missing a button, loose, has a hole that can be patched, etc). I will leave this third pile up to you.

4) Make a list!

While you sort through what you are going to donate and what you will keep, make a list of the items you SEE that you NEED TO ADD. I love taking this time to look at my stuff and make a note of what I’d like to add in my closet. For instance, if you have too many prints, perhaps made a note to add solid colors. If you have too much of the color black (I’m guilty to this!), then try adding more color.

If you don’t know where to start, you can never go wrong with sticking with your basics; solid white, navy blue, black, red, yellow, etc.

5) Put Items Away….Neatly

When you start hanging and putting your items away, start with the things that you don’t wear AS OFTEN in the back, and as you may your way to the front of the closet, start hanging the items that you wear more often. For instance, I have t-shirts, at the front followed by jeans and shorts. Towards the back of the closet, I have my fancy dresses and sequins tops.
